IOF-PIERRE DELMAS AWARD

The IOF-Pierre Delmas Award, named in honour of the late Professor Pierre D. Delmas, IOF co-founder, honours an individual who has made a significant and unstinting contribution to the advancement of the work of the IOF, through furthering one or more of the mission statements and/or goals of the Foundation. The winner of this prestigious award is Professor Jean-Yves Reginster, from Liège, Belgium. The award ceremonies were held Wednesday, during the opening
session of the Congress.

In presenting the award, Professor Cooper noted, «Prof. Reginster, IOF co-founder, has worked tirelessly to broaden the international recognition of the IOF. He is one of the most active members of the IOF and is a rare individual able to bring together members of patient societies, scientists, partners of the industry and politicians».

Jean-Yves Reginster is currently Professor of Epidemiology, Public Health and Health Economics at the University of Liège where he serves also as the Head of the Bone and Cartilage Metabolism Unit. He is the Chairman and President of the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Liège. He is an active researcher who has authored more than 600 publications, mainly dedicated to pathophysiology of osteoarthritis, epidemiology of osteoporosis and
arthritis, health economics, clinical management of osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. Among his other professional activities, Professor Reginster is President of the European Society for Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis (ESCEO), President of the Group for the Respect of Ethics and Excellence in Science (GREES), General Secretary of the Belgian Bone Club (BBC) and Board Member of the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) (immediate past-General Secretary). He is also serving as the Chairman of the Medical Commission of the Royal Belgian Football Association.
